Everything with salted egg nowadays become gold—whether it’s salted egg chicken, salted egg ice-cream or even salt egged coffee (okay, we made up the last one). So, in Malaysia, Petaling Jaya, a bakery came out with a molten egg yolk custard croissant, or in layman’s term, “salted egg bread”, and it became an overnight sensation after a popular Malaysian blogger, Rebecca Saw, reviewed it on 19 November 2015.
People all over Malaysia, and even from Singapore, went over to the bakery, known as Le Bread Days, causing a severe over-demand (just for that croissant, of course) . Why, you might ask. It’s pictures like these, plus the trend of having everything salted egg, that led to the high demand.
But the story didn’t end on a happy note, though.
The demand is so high that the croissants are sold out within minutes upon being baked. With this kind of demand, the shop decided to allow only four croissants to be sold to each customer, and to announce the time they croissant will be ready for purchase. The last we check, the timings are 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m, with about 150 per batch during weekdays.
But that was when shit hits the fan.
People complained online that the timing is different—and claims that the bakery is playing hard to get. Some were angry that they have to regularly check the Facebook timings, complaining that not everyone uses Facebook. There were crazy queues and everyone was trying to get their hands on the croissants.
Here’re some of the screenshots of the complaints.
Le Bread Days have apologized on their Facebook Page with this:
Dear customers , we like to apologize to you whom have waited and unable to get the molten croissant . We are trying our best effort to satisfy everyone by determining the increased quantity and right timing to get it ready to avoid unnecessary waiting time and ensure everyone to get the same .
Please bear with us , we are still determining the timing . Please be informed that the molten croissant will be ready at 11.30 am and 3.30 pm tomorrow and at increased quantity .
Thank you very much for your support and understanding.
On the next day, they posted an image to engage a junior baker and a front crew.
So, what do you think? Are they playing hard to get, or has the overnight sensation caught them off-guard?
