We thought long and hard about how we can spend Christmas this year because we’re really impatient for the day to come, and we came across the idea of spending Christmas in another country, or more specifically, Malaysia.
Singapore is an exciting metropolis to celebrate Christmas in, what with all the parties, the Christmas events and promotions going on, but after spending so many years in Singapore, we thought it might be novel to spend this season in another country instead.
If you’ve not went on any vacation in other countries this year, why not consider going to Malaysia? Here’s our take on the 5 reasons why you should spend Christmas in Malaysia instead of good ole Singapore.
It’s so much cheaper over there
And there you have it, our main reason for spending our dollars in Malaysia. With current exchange rate of SGD 1 to RM 3.02, you basically tripled your spending power by more than 3 times when you make your way to Malaysia, which means you can pamper yourself with super good food and shopping sprees at 1/3 of the usual prices. Isn’t that great?
The amazing Christmas Décor at Malaysia’s shopping malls
While Malaysia, like Singapore, don’t have a white Christmas, but their shopping malls have amazing Christmas décor that can rival Singapore’s Orchard Road and guaranteed to put you into the festive mood right away. And if you’re looking for retail therapy, the Christmas promotions will definitely give you bang for your buck.
Freeport A’Famosa Outlet Village in Melaka
We’ve previously written on the Freeport A’Famosa Outlet Village, a stone throw away from A’Famosa Hotels and Resorts. If you’re in the mood for relaxation and a healthy dose of retail therapy, then you’ll never go wrong with going to Malacca this season. Not only is Freeport A’Famosa Outlet Village selling luxury brands below market prices, you can be sure to take advantage of the Christmas promotions that’s sure to take place within the village.
A reason to be uncontactable from the office
In Singapore, having public holidays and leave days is basically another term for working from home. Just because you’re away from the office doesn’t mean your office stops operating, or that they won’t call you even though you’re technically not working. However, there’s still an unspoken rule that if you’re away from the country, it would be bad form to call you so if you want to spend Christmas without work interruptions, you’ll definitely have to leave the country.
You can use less of your annual leave
This year, 25 December falls on a Friday, and most companies would have the eve of Christmas as a half day, so if you set off on the 24th and return on the 27th of December, you’ve gotten your vacation without taking any annual leave at all.
