Facebook, while created as a means of keeping up with friends and getting connected to them in ways that was previously unheard of, has revolutionized the ways we socialize and maintain friendships, it has its downsides as well and has been the source of many miscommunication and misunderstandings. If you thought that means couples quarreling and breaking up, friends dissing each other online and eventually drifting apart and other minor incidents, then you’re never more wrong.
When we came across this incident that was reported on Malaysia media about a man quarreling with his girlfriend because of Facebook, we had to share it with you.
Sounds like a Facebook story we’ve all heard from our friends before, right? New guy flirt with girl, boyfriend gets angry and does something drastic. Well, this might be slightly different from what we usually hear.
It was reported on New Straits Times that on Thursday night (21 Jan 2016) at Taman Pisang Awak, Kampung Melayu, Penang, a couple got into a heated argument and the man used an axe to hit his girlfriend before chasing her out of their home.

The boyfriend, a 52-year-old male was angry at his girlfriend, a 28-year-old, because her Facebook friends commented that she was pretty. Yes, because her Facebook friends told her that she was pretty. They got into an argument, and when the argument escalated, he reached for an axe and started hitting her before chasing her out of the house.
The woman fled and lodged a police report at the police station the following day. She suffered bruises on her arms and had a swollen right eye.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said investigations seems to suggest that the incident was sparked by jealousy, and the boyfriend thought that the victim has another boyfriend.
The victim had not wanted to drag the case, and was willing to drop the case if the man would come down to the police station and promise not to hit her again in the future, but when the police visited their home, it was found that the house was empty and the man was believed to have fled from the immediate vicinity.
The couple has been staying together for the past two years and have a four-month-old daughter, but there wasn’t a marriage certificate. It was also reported that the man was previously charged for drug offences, criminal intimidation and theft.
Investigations are still ongoing and the police is investigating the case under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt.
