When you think of Malaysia, the word “romantic” may not necessary come to mind. Romance doesn’t necessary have to come with a hefty price tag and these spots in Malaysia prove it.

Langkawi, Kedah
An archipelago of 104 islands in the Andaman Sea, Langkawi is part of the state of Kedah. With its azure waters, white beaches and lush jungle backdrop, it is no wonder it that it is also called the Jewel of Kedah! To truly appreciate the beauty of Langkawi, take a romantic cable ride up Mount Mat Chinchang aboard the Langkawi Cable Car.

Sipadan, Sabah
Sipadan was named ‘The Top Dive Destination in the World’ by Rodale’s Scuba Diving Magazine Gold List, and for good reasons. It has one of the most diverse marine life in Malaysia, from parrotfish to barracudas and sea turtles–you name it and they’ll probably have it. Snorkeling is highly recommended for non-divers to experience for yourself the beauty beneath the ocean water.

Rawa Island, Johor
Just a mere 2 hours drive from Singapore, Rawa Island is perfect for a quick getaway. It is not as famous as Tioman and Langkawi but has equally blue waters and white sandy beaches. There are only two resorts which you can stay in and prices include everything from ferry transports to daily meals. Those seeking a quieter beach holiday can consider Rawa Island.

Tioman, Pahang
Lengend has it that Tioman was where a dragon princess rested while on her way to visit her prince. Set against the backdrop of lush tropical jungles, immaculate beaches and exotic marine life, it’s no wonder that a princess would want to rejuvenate herself here. Other than its breathtaking views, you can also visit the Juara Turtle Project for a glimpse of baby turtles (if you’re there during hatching season).

Colmar Tropicale, Pahang
Remember that little French village that Belle of Beauty and the Beast lived in? Colmar Tropical is just that. It is inspired by the old town of Colmar in Alsace, France, known to be one of the most beautiful city in Europe. The cool climates, stunning mountain views and French-Medieval cottages will really make you think that you’re in Europe.

Cameron Highlands, Pahang
Take a break from city life and head off to the hills of Cameron Highlands. Here, the mountain air is cool and fresh. You can spend the day gazing upon tea plantations, frolicking in butterfly farms and plucking fresh strawberries.

Poring Hot Spring, Kota Kinabalu
For a nominal fee, get to soak away all your aches and stress in this natural hot spring. The hot sulphuric minerals of the water are said to have healing benefits to the body. If you still have time to kill after the hot spring, you can also visit nearby attractions such as the Poring canopy walkway and Rafflesia Flower Site.

Georgetown, Penang
For those who find romance in history, you’ll love the sleepy rustic charm of Georgetown. It was once an important trading hub in the Straits of Malacca. Today, it still retains many of its ancient artefacts and is most well-known for its British colonial houses, Chinese shophouses and mosques. Get lost in time exploring the multicultural heritage of this place.

Saga Hill Waterfall, Kuala Lumpur
While many will automatically think of KL as an urban city, the Saga Hills Waterfall is one of its best kept nature secret. Take a slow hike up to the top of the waterfall to catch the sunrise. You’ll never forget the breathtaking hues of the sky coupled with the soothing sounds of the waterfall.
